Christmas gifts!!

28 Dec 2013

First of all, I would like to wish you all a merry chirstmas!! (late one, sorray). Since I had arrived to my country, Paraguay,  I've been SO busy. Christmas however was very chill. Usually in my family, every year for the holidays everyone is so stressed out and the night has to end with some type of drama. This year, none of it happened, which was a bit weird, but as I said, it was very chill, for the very first time. We had a lovely dinner with candles with delicious food!

My favorite part of the holidays is usually the food part. There is always so-much-food that I feel like I'm in paradise. And I prefer to give gifts rather than receiving them. Since I am a very loving and caring sister (you better be reading this lil sistah), I bought her a pennyboard and a polaroid 70 SX (btw, if anyone can help me, it doesn't work when we shoot the picture, nothing comes out, just write a comment below). That's why my luggages weighted way too much. She was happy and thats what it mattered. And for me you may ask? Oh my! I could not be more grateful and happier for the gift I received this christmas...

A Valentino perfume!!

IM IN LOVE!! I love the smell SO MUCH. If I had to describe it I would say it smells like candy, flowers, elegance, love, awesomeness...

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!! now lets go for the New Year's eve! :D

What is beauty anyway?

19 Dec 2013

Its finals week... I should be revising now but its been a while since I posted anything in here and I missed my blog. Since there has been so many readings and studying lately, I was taking a break by reading (yeah so smart, again reading) greek mythology. I love history and ancient civilizations are one of my weaknesses I would say. So yeah, for me its really enjoyable reading mythologies and folklore.

Now one thing really got me thinking...in some of the readings there were pictures of paintings attached, like this one by Pierre Narcisse Guerin: (I want to apologize in advance for such "revealing" images but hey, I didn't paint them. Just kidding. But in all seriousness, it was the time of the renaissance and the whole great awakening things of arts and other social factors. )

It just made me think how the physical beauty back in those times were completely different from what the definition of physical beauty is now for our society. So as history changes and modifies, nothing gets away from this evolution. Technology, transportation, ideas, the way we dress!! Its crazy how along the years fashion changed. So apparently whats beautiful also depends on the time of the history we are. I mean, when did this perception changed? Its just so odd that now beauty is defined as to be physically "perfect" in such as going through plastic surgeries, having big boobs, a big derriere, a flat stomach with abs. So the chubby people are not considered beautiful according to the society?

In the fashion industry, models must be in a certain height to be accepted. Long legs, flat stomach, really skinny. We've seen issues with this that it reached to the point that those poor models have to starve themselves to be even skinnier than they already are and jeopardize their health. But why? Just because the clothes would look better on them? Who said that? Fashion has reached really extreme points. I love fashion, don't get me wrong, but I just disagree with so many things in that industry. And I do agree that certain outfits look better on "long legged" people because trust me, I'm only 5'0 and when I try to wear those type of clothes, it looks horrible. But that doesn't mean that the other types of women should be completely segregated from this. There are companies that refused to merchandise their apparel for plus size women. But why is this? Because they are not beautiful enough?

It doesn't really matter if you are skinny, chubby, or whatever you may call it, as long as YOU feel healthy then everything else is sprinkles on the finished cake.

Big difference...I wonder what would the definition of beauty be next, christmas lights all over our bodies?

Online Shopping

2 Dec 2013

Isn't that the three favorite words of all girls? Mine certainly are!
Where I used to live, in Ghana, we did not really have the option of performing online shopping. "Why?" you may ask, well , I'll tell you why: Because no retail store ships to Africa! With the exception of South Africa I guess. So everything I could do is to visit the websites and just stare at the clothes, imagining how good they would look in my closet.

However now, since I live in the USA, I can do as many online shopping as I want!! Actually depending on the amount of money I have. But that does not change the fact that even buying only one item gives you so much joy and entertainment! When you open the box and find all your clothes, brand new with that special smell of new. And don't even get me started when you try them on! You feel like you were born again.

There are plenty of options that you can buy online from. Some of my absolute favorites are Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Wet Seal and H&M. If I had to pick only one it would definitely have to be Charlotte Russe. It does not only have amazing clothing styles and beautiful shoes but the pricing is ridiculously awesome. They are constantly offering many different promotions and discounts such as "If you buy one shoe, the next would be $5".

But after a while, if you buy from the same place it gets a bit boring, so its always good to vary your options from now and then. I consider my style very versatile, so I accept mostly many different styles. I sometimes feel like wearing all formal, girly stuff like I can find some from J.Crew:

Other times I feel like having a style where says a bit of a "rebel, chic" girl that I can find it in Hot Topic:

I have some times flashes of love of the 60's or 40's which when I found ModCloth I instantly fell in love! Perfect for a vintage style:

Informal, casual style?? Obey.com!

I will forever love to shop for apparel, whether it is by online stores or to visit myself, the feeling is the same! Although by buying clothes online, one of the disadvantages is that for some items you wouldn't really know if they will fit perfectly or not, specially with the shoes.

Which ones do you prefer to shop at? And do you prefer to buy online or to visit the stores yourself?

Are you ready to receive the antidote for ALL your style problems? Here it goes!

Oh that look!

Fashion consist in taking risks most of the times. That's how amazing innovations in designs are created. Imagination, that's the key. But of course fashion does not limit itself into clothing, its influence can go far beyond from home deco to hairstyles. Meaning that the fun is not only in matching your outfits with accessories and shoes but as well you can "play" with your hair and try new things. For this season I feel like trying either two specific hairstyles. One is "Honey Blond" and the second style I would like to try is "Purple Pastel".

I know, its a bit of two extremes but in one side, the honey blond seems such an amazing color. It would blend really well with this fall season. The colors of yellow and orange of the leaves will go so good with that hair color, maybe adding a bit of ombre to it as well. It would look so awesome. Although there are different ways that it can be styled by using the honey blonde as it can be seen in some of the pictures below. Depending on how much of the color you apply or with what other colors you may combine. Anyhow, the end result would look fabulous!

Going to the other extreme of colors, we have purple pastel! This hair color seems such an exciting and thrilling trend to try out. It's different, it's original, unique, uncommon and beautiful. I mean, look at that color! It seems like a princess of Ice-land or something. However there are two problems concerning this look. 1) Would you be able to pull it off? Maybe it would not look as good as you thought it would. But hey! If you don't try it you will never know. You can also use photoshop to see how you might look like. 2) You will have to dye over and over and over again. This color requires A LOT of taking care of. Personally I think its a bit awful when you can see the roots over this type of hair color as the example of Kelly in the second row.

It looks unpolished and dirty.

It's a very difficult decision in choosing either color. Both are really good choices. Honey blonde is more of a classic look and purple pastel is more "radical", wild look which later on can be a good story to tell to the grand-sons, "Kids, I used to have purple hair!".

Which one would you go for?

Fear of Failure

9 Nov 2013

http://favim.com/image/628822/

As I was walking from my class to my dorm last time, I couldn't help to not notice the amazing nature around me. The leaves of the trees falling, making a carpet of orange leaves (yeah, as you may have noticed already, I'm kind of in love with the whole fall season) when suddenly a strong wind came. All of those leaves on the floor formed a hurricane like shape, I got a bit scared to be honest since Kansas is known for hurricanes, at least thats what people told me. I was just casually walking when all these leaves came flying over me. "The attack of the leaves" type of movie. Although it was scary at first, watching those orange leaves fly away, flowing with the wind, going in its unknown direction...it made me reflect on my life.

One thing that is constantly ruling my life is fear of failure. And reflecting through my life, I came to the realization that that annoying friend of mine had always been with me. For a very long time actually. I can say I've done the things I always wanted to do like being part of the basketball and soccer team, play electric guitar and piano and doing dance lessons. However there are still many things I wish I had done. And I didn't get to do them because of fear. I also feel like I could've done the things I did way better like play basketball better. I remember every time it was time for me to go on the court I used to freaked out so much that I literally started shaking as I was doing the harlem shake. I was so scared that I would play so bad and mess everything up. Now that I look back at those times I just wish I didn't feel that way. Not only when I was about to play basketball but also in soccer season or when I had to perform a choreography or do something else. Fear was ALWAYS there, right next to me. Don't even get me started in my academics. That is the biggest thing I fear of. I fear that I would fail massively in academics and I have the right to feel this way because of the IB Program. It's been hell. My grades were so bad and for a perfectionist that is very very bad.

To make the story more positive, now in college, I'm doing great! Well, so far at least. I'm getting mostly A's, although I'm procrastinating now and then (what can I say? I'm human too). Although now that academics its being taken care of (at least for now), I still have that fear of not succeeding and of not being good enough. Now, the thing is that I know for sure that Im not the only person who feels this way. There are so many people who also have fears. Sometimes we let those fears take care of our lives completely that we feel lost and don't know which direction to take next in our lives. It's pretty darn scary and is not a good feeling to have. That uncertainty of the future, that you have no idea what might happen: would I succeed? would I fail? Would I be someone in life? Would I make my parents proud?

Yes, fear sometimes can limit us in doing many things we want to do. Luckily, we have so many inspiration in this world that either with words or actions can makes us feel that those fears we are having can go to hell! Life is too short. I know I know, you guys had probably heard this so many times but its actually true. Last time I remember I was turning 16 and partying with my friends. Now I'm 19, in college. Times flies so fast is insane! So if we live in fear all the time we shouldn't call it "living". You are LIVING when you are doing things that make you happy! things that you enjoy, that makes you feel good, that takes your breath away! Maybe some of these things require a little bit of getting out of your comfort zone in which is when fear comes in. I totally get it. But we should start owning what we really want to achieve and make fail kiss our bums!

It will definitely not be easy at first but having a positive mindset that you can achieve it, it will help tons. Like this pair of fashionable and talented twins who own Dsquared2 once said that if you don't try you will never know if it would work or not, and that if you fail, you wouldn't fall in the same place you've started, you can never go backwards, only forwards.

It's kind of like a jungle out there! And we should start behaving like a tiger and show everyone that we can roar! louder than a lion, which reminds me...

Beautiful fall days on campus...

I've always lived in places where it was warm ALL YEAR LONG. So basically nature and landscape was pretty much the same all the time. Now that I live in Kansas, its another business. I'll get the feel of the full four seasons in here, even snow!! I've never seen snow before. Im actually pretty excited about it! not looking forward for the amount of negative Celsius it will reach though.

It's a complete dream when you are walking around campus and you see all this orange-y colors of the leaves in the trees and on the floor. Its like a carpet of fallen leaves. The weather its not too cold (yet) which is nice, for me at least, I heard some people complaining about it already. I don't know about you guys and those people but for me, the fall season is great so far! Not only nature looks amazing but the fall season's outfits...g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. You can get to wear the classic colors like brown and black, even white but as well bright colors as yellow and it would still fit with the season. If you guys saw versace fall-winter 2013 collection, you will see some nice bright yellow coats. Beautiful.
